Spicy Tuna Roll Recipe

Here’s a recipe for a popular and delicious Japanese food choice: Spicy Tuna Roll.

Spicy Tuna Roll

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 4 nori seaweed sheets
  • 1/2 lb sushi-grade tuna
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce (adjust to taste for spiciness)
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Soy sauce, for serving
  • Pickled ginger, for serving
  • Wasabi, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Rice:
    • Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
    • Cook the rice according to package instructions or using a rice cooker.
    • Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl and let it cool slightly. Season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, then mix gently to combine. Allow the rice to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Tuna:
    • Dice the sushi-grade tuna into small cubes.
    • In a bowl, mix the diced tuna with mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce until well combined. Adjust the amount of Sriracha according to your desired level of spiciness.
  3. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down.
    • Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori sheet, leaving about 1-inch of space at the top edge.
    • Spread a line of spicy tuna mixture horizontally across the center of the rice.
    • Arrange julienned cucumber and avocado slices alongside the tuna.
  4. Roll the Sushi:
    • Starting from the bottom edge closest to you, lift the bamboo mat and roll it away from you, enclosing the filling. Use firm pressure to shape the roll.
    • Once rolled, use the bamboo mat to gently press and shape the roll into a neat cylinder.
    • Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Slice and Serve:
    • Use a sharp knife to slice each roll into 6-8 pieces.
    • Arrange the sushi slices on a plate.
    • Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
    • Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.
  6. Enjoy the food!
