Here’s a recipe for a popular and delicious Japanese food choice: Spicy Tuna Roll.
Spicy Tuna Roll
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 4 nori seaweed sheets
- 1/2 lb sushi-grade tuna
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce (adjust to taste for spiciness)
- 1 cucumber, julienned
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Soy sauce, for serving
- Pickled ginger, for serving
- Wasabi, for serving
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Rice:
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Cook the rice according to package instructions or using a rice cooker.
- Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl and let it cool slightly. Season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, then mix gently to combine. Allow the rice to cool completely.
- Prepare the Tuna:
- Dice the sushi-grade tuna into small cubes.
- In a bowl, mix the diced tuna with mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce until well combined. Adjust the amount of Sriracha according to your desired level of spiciness.
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori sheet, leaving about 1-inch of space at the top edge.
- Spread a line of spicy tuna mixture horizontally across the center of the rice.
- Arrange julienned cucumber and avocado slices alongside the tuna.
- Roll the Sushi:
- Starting from the bottom edge closest to you, lift the bamboo mat and roll it away from you, enclosing the filling. Use firm pressure to shape the roll.
- Once rolled, use the bamboo mat to gently press and shape the roll into a neat cylinder.
- Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
- Slice and Serve:
- Use a sharp knife to slice each roll into 6-8 pieces.
- Arrange the sushi slices on a plate.
- Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
- Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.
- Enjoy the food!
